Frequently Asked Questions

Bringing a new puppy home? What is the best way to train it?  Use a crate? Some people think it’s an awful thing to do to a puppy, but that is not true.

Puppies get a feeling of security inside their “home”.  Coyotes and wolves are known to raise their pups in a den.  It keeps them close by and confined, and keeps the pups secure and safe.

Using a crate also helps with housebreaking.  Puppies do not soil the place where they sleep, so keeping them in the crate while you are away for a short time prevents accidents around the house.  Also, keeping your dog in a crate overnight trains it to wait until morning to go outside.

So confining puppies for short periods at a time and overnight is good for them.  As they grow up, they are ready for complete freedom.

Many adult dogs still go to their crates on their own to sleep or to just get out of the hubbub of a busy household.  It is their little home within the home.

From a new schnoodle family: "I cannot imagine not having a kennel, it is truly a lifesaver--his life, and my sanity!!"
